Our menu reflects the style of dishes we like to cook, eat ourselves and, most of all, cater for the tastes of our customers.
We always make our own food, (with the exception of things like chips, onion rings, ice cream etc) and try to use local, fresh ingredients… almost all the herbs we use are from our own ‘Herb Garden’; the fruit and vegetables are direct from Bristol market; Pat Thomas (Butchers) Ltd, Faringdon – who are certificated & accredited by the Scotch Beef Association - supply all our meat, game and poultry.
Whilst we like the idea of Organic food and ingredients, it isn’t always possible/cost effective to use them; although we do try to use Organic carrots with our Sunday roasts (UK Soil Certificate #5) and other organically produced ingredients whenever we are able.
We consider ourselves to be “family-friendly” and to which end we offer smaller portions of many of our dishes to appeal to children or adults with smaller appetites. We now have a separate Junior Menu which we hope appeals (and appeases!) the little ones!
Pre-ordering your food is another service, particularly effective if there are many of you or are in a hurry. Although this does not mean that the food will literally be waiting on the table (not a good practice), it does mean that we are able to prepare your food and set your table, generally speeding up the whole ordering process. We are keen to offer non meat eaters more than just Cheese sandwiches! About a quarter of our menu is strictly vegetarian, with an additional three or four fish/seafood dishes also available on the menu. The daily ‘Specials Board’ is where we try a lot of our veg options, mostly made or suggested by our staff who like vegetarian food.
Sunday Roast is one of our pride and joys. We always carve by hand and usually a choice of two meats (1 red 1 white) as well as in two sizes, depending on your appetite! This is another Pre-orderable meal, as we can get quite busy and hate to think of people not being able to get a roast. Please note that the full menu is also available on Sundays, inc ‘Specials’. Tables can be booked on-line or by phone.
If you are likely to be wanting a late Sunday lunch, or are part of a large group, a couple of days notice would allow us to order extra meat from the butcher & veg from the market to enable us to have enough!
hog roasts & and summer bbq's
Throughout the year we always hold Bank Holiday Monday barbecue lunches. These start at Easter and finish at the end of August Holiday weekend. In addition we also offer our BBQ services for private parties/works functions etc.
The Hog Roasts are now proving to be more and more popular. Although you really need a minimum of 40 people to make it cost effective, it really is a fun way of getting people together AND fed at the same time! We can provide these here in the beer garden OR at your home/workplace/college. These do get booked out so have a couple of dates in mind just in case and order far in advance to be sure of the date you would prefer.

Despite the new licensing laws we still hold ‘traditional’ hours, however if we are particularly busy or are holding a party or function we may serve longer.
